Seasonal display and continuing-education class

Matthew formed flexible branches around metal basket structures, added coconut-coir lining, and planted them with spring bulbs, hellebores, mosses, and grasses.

The baskets were installed at Longwood’s business entrance. Matthew also co-taught a continuing-education class on how to build, plant, and display them.

Making, installation, and teaching

01 / Making

Basket construction

Branches were formed around a metal basket structure. Coconut-coir lining held the planting of spring bulbs, hellebores, mosses, and grasses.

02 / Installation

Teaching the process

Matthew co-taught a continuing-education class on how to build, plant, and display a basket, guiding participants through the process from framework to finished planting.

From display to class

The same basket-making process served first as a seasonal display and later as a class Matthew co-taught.
